Rustic fences 

Rustic fences are the ideal way to teach someone to jump. Consisting of simple and narrow jumps, many riding school use them alongside coloured poles as they are the perfect introduction to jumping.

Rustic fences, are, by definition rustic in appearance. They are usually made from logs and other wood, and are flanked by greenery. As well as being a good introduction to jumping, rustic fences are the perfect solution to creating a jumping course in a smaller area. They can also be used indoors, in an arena for showjumping, or outdoors, even on a cross country course.

Rustic fences were frequently found on hunt courses, and many riders enjoy them as a way of making a leisurely hack a bit more fun and interesting. In fact, a rustic fence can be anything from a fallen tree to a purpose built fence on a course. Often, rustic fences are constructed from piles of logs, as if they had fallen, or been collected in a forest and placed there, in order to retains an air of authenticity.

Rustic fences reinforce the feeling of being at one with nature that many riders experience, particularly when out for a hack. They look beautiful in any setting, and horses enjoy them too. Most riders find their horses less likely to refuse a rustic fence than other types of jump.
